University of Helsinki Confers the Title of Docent in Economic and Social History on Danila Raskov

On September 2, 2025, the Chancellor of the University of Helsinki approved the decision to confer the title of Docent in Economic and Social History on Danila Raskov (Danila Raskoville).

In the universities of Northern Europe, the title of Docent is awarded following a rigorous academic evaluation process. Candidates submit six research articles published in leading peer-reviewed journals after the completion of their doctoral dissertation, along with a description of their teaching philosophy and academic trajectory. As part of the procedure, the candidate also delivers a public lecture, and the materials are assessed by two independent experts in the relevant field.

The review process typically takes about a year and a half. The title of Docent is comparable to the Habilitation used in Germany, France, and some other European countries and represents recognition of a researcher’s high academic qualification and scholarly independence.
