Time Machines: Clocks in History of Technology and Contemporary Art

As time is the only resource we have the course invites to look at it from historical, philosophical and artistic perspectives. Being one of the most universal and influential machines in the human history it served as a metaphor for the universal order and lcoordinated the global one. We will look at the ancient Chinese and Arabic clocks, study the work of famous clockmakers such as Jaquet Droz, look into “The Clock”(C.Marclay), a 24-hour of cuts from the movies and make a literary clock.
