Ilja Kalinin is a well-known Russian literary and cultural historian in exile, former associate professor at St. Petersburg University, department of “liberal arts and sciences” (“Smolny College”), and “leading research fellow” at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow . Kalinin’s research focuses on early Soviet cultural and ideological history, post-Soviet social and cultural transformation processes, and identity and history politics in contemporary Russia. He will, among other things, to talk about the “Smolny Beyond Borders” project, a higher education initiative for students who left Russia and its neighboring countries due to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
