The role of culinary arts in both realistic and mythological prose is immense: the dietary preferences of characters and their place in the “food chain” serve as vital strokes in their characterization. Through reader empathy, the pleasure and appetite experienced by the author are almost always transmitted to the audience.
Culinary practice in literature encompasses aesthetic, pragmatic, and symbolic dimensions. We will treat world literature as a rich collection of exotic recipes while simultaneously decoding the mythological aura of specific ingredients. This course examines how food correlates with professional spheres, economic classes, and heraldic positions. We will trace the evolution of culinary themes through Romanticism, Realism, and Modernism, combining the study of key historical texts with an analysis of the most refined dishes in literary history.
