Cinema as Action: her* hands and his shape
As a part of Eastern Neighbours Film Festival (ENFF) and special program “Between Film and Art”, together with a filmmaker Sílvia das Fadas, Masha Godovannaya presents the dual 16mm projection performance “her* hands and his shape” (15 min, 2017—).
Cinema does more than reflect the world – it actively engages with it. Artist-filmmakers Sílvia das Fadas and Masha Godovannaya present an expanded cinema séance: a live dual 16mm projection that summons an ancestral lineage of women in political filmmaking.
An incantation “Do you believe in ghosts?“ becomes a refrain in this double projection of sequences from films by women who made films politically, or gave their presence to films politically. Their images re-emerge through Krasnogorsk-3 and Bolex lenses, interlaced with landscapes and objects that once haunted their creators.
In her* hands, his form is shaped; through her* labor, his authority is called into question.
The performance will take place at De Balie Amsterdam, on March 28, at 17:00.
