Elusive horizons: films by Masha Godovannaya

Director

Date and Time

Sunday, 29 April, 19:00 Mexico

The motifs and procedures that permeate the films of Russian artist Masha Godovannaya reveal a vast diversity whose logic appears to respond more to an obsession for change or to a certain affinity for the restart than to an easily recognizable unity in its continuity. A poetics that seems to vindicate caprice, understood as an engine for reinvention motivated by desire, in intimate relation with voracious curiosity, leads to make of the filmic universe of an artist, Godovannaya in this case, as a laboratory for experimentation and fabulation. Each film is a different starting point and undertakes a new search that does not necessarily lead to any certainty. Godovannaya’s cinema, in this sense, shines for its atypical fidelity to the notion of the “experimental”. (Salvador Amores, film curator)

This program brings together a selection of six works made by Godovannaya between 2005 and 2022, in St. Petersburg, Rotterdam, and Vienna.
At the end of the screenings there will be a Q&A with the director.
